Baby Shower Gift Ideas – Baby Furniture

December 17th, 2009 by jennie

For new parents, having a baby is one of God’s graces for them. A great preparation is a must to successfully welcome the newborn child’s arrival. The shower party should be done according to the plan – from the food, guests and gifts. Setting up cool baby furniture and accessories in the nursery room are great also to show your little darling how he/she is loved.

As to the baby furniture, there are different kinds to choose from. However, choosing the right one for the baby is the main challenge. To find these items, lots of specialty stores made available their top of the line furniture products. The price of each furniture varies with their materials, styles and designs. Some of them can be very expensive but has a better quality compared to cheaper counterparts. Aside from local retailer stores, online stores offer also these baby items. Today, shopping online is a popular option for more convenient purchasing. Aside from that, a wide variety of items selection are available. You can also find cheap items that can make an affordable option for your tight budget.

As with baby furnitures, one of the most important items that you may give is a baby crib. This type of furniture is one of the most important necessities for babies. This item is typically used as a bed for babies. Placing the baby on the crib is a safe idea compared with depending his safety on a bassinet.

Cribs are designed to restrict the baby to the bed. The sides are typically higher for babies to climb with no footholds. The idea behind this design is to safely leave babies behind while their parents are doing some things. And to further improve security and reliability of the confinement, a fabric or solid top may be added to the crib.

Another important furniture is the changing table. This kind of furniture comes with a small raised platform and designed for more convenient dressing of the baby. There are different kinds of changing tables that feature great add-ons as well. These furniture can make a very useful and functional gift for babies. This is not a surprise why most moms appreciate such a gift idea like changing tables.

However, before buying these items, check and look carefully or shake it to see if it’s wobbly, otherwise it is unsafe for the baby. For changing tables, if it seems trickery in the store, then it won’t get any better once you have it at home. Antique stores can be a great source of beautiful changing tables that still have lots of life in them. Just be careful that there are no exposed nails and other structural problems before using the antique changing table.

Other furniture that can be added on your list are mirrors, high chairs and stool, toy boxes and the like. You may also consider decorations to further enhance the overall look of the baby’s nursery room. Decors like frames are best to show some glimpse of the baby. There are also furniture and decors that have cool special effects, you may consider personalized and themed items like personalized flip stools and nursery frame sets. Other personalized gifts such as baby accessories can also make a great gift option to welcome the baby.

Nursery Ideas: Baby’s Closet Organization

December 4th, 2009 by jennie

Creating a usable closet for your nursery is a challenge. Bringing a baby into the house can mean that you suddenly have a lot of stuff to store. Keeping organized is necessary for every new parent. You need to have a place for everything or it can quickly get out of hand. Design a closet that has room to spare, no matter how little space you think you have.

Because of safety issues and the need for floor space, many parents are choosing not to invest in expensive, bulky furniture for the nursery. If you do have a dresser, make sure that it is properly anchored to avoid tipping. Using the closet to create storage is a great idea. Not only will you avoid the tipping hazard, but you will leave more play space in the floor for your child and you can keep little hands away from the tempting stacks of laundry!

Drawers tend to hide folded clothes so that you have to dig through them to find what you are looking for. A lot of times, this means that your carefully folded stacks quickly become piles of clothes crammed in the drawer. Using shallow drawers installed inside the closet can help you organize small items like socks and pajamas. You can even save money by using baskets instead of drawers. Shelves are great for displaying stacks of folded clothes so that you can clearly see all that is in the stack without unfolding anything. Putting clothes away is a snap when everything is easily accessible.

Use wooden baby hangers in your nursery closet to keep nicer clothes from getting wrinkled. Baby hangers are important because hangers designed for adult clothes can stretch and damage delicate baby items. Wooden baby hangers will really make your closet look nice and neat. They are very sturdy and can withstand whatever torture your baby may eventually put them through! They have a curvature designed to keep the clothing in the correct shape and size. The curvature also keeps clothes slightly separated so that they do not wrinkle.

Some of your baby clothes will become keepsakes or heirlooms, so you want to make sure that you keep them nice. By using items such as wooden baby hangers, you can protect clothing and keep it in great condition. Many parents choose to do this so that they can pass their baby clothing down to future children or sell the clothing at a child consignment shop. Keeping your baby clothes nice while keeping your life organized will be fun and easy in your new nursery closet.

Unique Nursery Ideas

December 1st, 2009 by jennie

You know what furniture you want.  You have even selected colors and a theme.  But, you are looking for some unique ideas to spruce up your nursery.  Use these tips to make things more convenient, organized, unique and stylish.

Recessed shelving adds a special flare to any room, but it is especially useful in a nursery.  Recessed shelves are not very deep and are just right for all of those tiny baby items.  It’s fairly easy to add recessed shelves.  Use a stud finder to determine where the shelves will fit.  Mark off the area that you would like to turn into shelves.  Cut out the sheetrock with a steak knife.  Fill in the gaps with plywood and 1×6 boards.  Add the shelves and paint.  This is a fairly simple project that is easy to do with two people.

Install a chair rail to really frame out the room.  Chair rails should be one third of the height of the ceiling.  Measure from floor to ceiling and divide by three. Use a level to mark a line all the way around the room.  Start somewhere easy, like against a door frame or window frame.  This first piece will be cut at a ninety degree angle.  Adjoining pieces should fit together with forty five degree cuts.  Go in one direction around the room.  Use a miter saw to cut the corners and joints at forty five degrees.  This will give you a professional finish.  Recess the nails, fill the holes and sand the surface.  Use paintable caulk to seal the chair rail to the wall.  Most walls are not totally flat, so don’t be surprised if you have a gap to fill.  Let it dry and you’re ready to paint.

A long storage bench is another great addition to the nursery.  You may decide to use an entire wall for this, or build a bench between two bookshelves around a window for a beautiful window seat.  Measure and build a basic box to fit the area.  Cut the front piece a little lower than the rest to allow for closure without smashing little fingers.  You may decide to make multiple lids for a really long seat.  Secure box to studs with screws.  Install lids with torsion hinges made for toy boxes.  This will allow the tops to stay in the position that they are put in and easily close without slamming shut.  Use decorative pillows, paint or stencils to personalize the space.

Whether you are adding storage or decoration, your nursery will look great.  Don’t neglect the closet when you are adding storage.  Use baby hangers to keep clothes from getting misshapen or torn.  Infant hangers not only look great, but maximize the storage capacity of a closet.  Have fun with your nursery and be proud of the style that you created yourself.

Stuck for some nursery décor ideas? Here you’ll find a couple of tips

November 29th, 2009 by jennie

Whether you’re looking for nursery decor or bedroom decor, one thing is for certain: both of them have to create an environment where children can both learn and have huge amounts of fun. We’ll light on a couple of ideas that you can use to ensure that your children get the best of both worlds and also get that initial exposure about caring for the environment.

There’s not such a huge difference when it comes to choosing nursery decor or bedroom decor. Granted, while your bedroom decor is usually intended for a boy or a girl, and your nursery decor is usually chosen for both sexes, the focus in both cases rests on a certain aesthetic appeal that will hopefully spark some interest in the child(ren) and provide a measure of amusement. More often than not, this is achieved through a specific theme; a theme that will expose the child or children to an initial form of education.

So what’s in a theme? Well, to start off we’ll have to take the biggest items in the room into account. Think in terms of the bedding, think tables and curtains. If all these items are in theme, then you can be assured of an entertained audience. And the reason is quite simple: it will provide them with the opportunity to create their own stories with the pictures, through which they’ll be able to learn the names of object shapes and colors.

But there’s a bit more to nursery decor and bedroom decor than just the biggest pieces of furniture or making up their own stories. Think in terms of themed murals on the wall or pictures against it – these already tell a story but will need some creative interpretation. Again, this is something that is suited to both the bedroom and the nursery and could prove to be a very good exercise in artistic creation for those young, uncoordinated hands to help them steady and develop.

And last but not least, when it comes to nursery decor and bedroom decor, is the aspect of environmental friendliness. The reason for using eco-friendly furniture is not only because it is good for the environment or that it will put the child in a place where he’ll be exposed to environmental care. It’s for the simple fact that environmental-friendly items are usually more child friendly than their normal counterparts, which means the children will be safer, too.

That being said, we’d suggest you start by choosing a theme and working your way up from there. One of the most successful themes around is the train theme due to its many colors and the variety of shapes. But, if you can think of a better one, then by all means. Just ensure that there are enough suppliers with a wide variety of items for that theme that will enable you to purchase more items when the time comes. Oh, and do take care to ask whether those items are all built with the environment in mind to give your kids the best mother nature has to offer.

Choosing the right nursery decor or even children’s bedroom decor is of paramount importance. It’s the shapes and objects that surround children during infancy that plays an important part later in their life.

5 Baby Nursery Ideas to Get Your Creativity Flowing

November 26th, 2009 by jennie

With the wealth of nursery decoration possibilities, it can be difficult deciding your baby nursery decor. The best way to narrow down your baby nursery decoration choices is to think about your own style and interests. Consider the things that were comforting to you growing up or consider styles of today that you like. Keep in mind that a baby nursery decor has to be pleasing and functional for both baby and parents.

The goal with any baby nursery decor is to create a special place for you and your baby since you will be spending the most time here and much of the bonding will occur in the baby’s room. So the nursery decoration style you select should have an inviting and pleasant feel to it. To assist you with making your baby nursery decoration choices, here are five points to stimulate your ongoing creativity.

1. Start with the crib. Since this is the focal point in the room, select your crib design first and then the style of the room will be defined for you. Whether you select a modern, classic, Victorian, or whimsical crib style, the design will establish the rest of your baby nursery decor. A changing table, dresser and other furniture pieces should be selected to match the style.

2. Add color. The color scheme of the room should reflect the style of your furniture. But to stimulate your baby’s eyes and brain, incorporate bold colors and patterns into your nursery decoration. Utilize the primary colors, as well as shades of them for a complementing and contrasting color scheme. Add a colorful design to the ceiling as well for an interesting look.

3. Include some character. Adding colorful characters bring a baby nursery decor to life. You can either use a stencil to paint in themed or storybook characters, affix a decal or mural to the wall, or hang a poster or wall hanging. Some popular characters are from nursery rhymes, books, or television shows. Among them are classics like Raggedy Ann and Andy, Noah’s Ark and Mother Goose.

4. Accessorize. Accessories are where you can really emphasize your baby nursery decoration look. For easy care, choose accessories that are washable, unbreakable and baby proof. There are numerous unique designs for nursery decoration pieces like photo frames, decorative baskets, shelving and toy boxes.

5. Incorporate the essentials. You will find that your baby nursery decoration items will change as your baby progresses from infancy to early school age. During the newborn stages, the room should include essential furnishings for the parents, such as a glider, ottoman, or rocking chair, which are ideal comfort items for feeding and rocking. As the baby grows older, you can remove these furnishings and replace them with age appropriate essentials.

As you design your nursery, you are creating a space for nurturing and growth. The special touches you add foster an environment where your baby will encounter new and magical things that excite the senses and create a happy and secure child.

Organic and Natural Ideas For Your Baby Nursery

November 25th, 2009 by jennie

After the initial excitement of finding out your are expecting, you find yourself faced with a myriad of decisions. Today, it is easier than ever to choose to parent your child in a natural and organic way to help ensure she is surrounded by healthy materials and products. Choosing to go organic will help your baby be less prone to allergies and infections and other unhealthy conditions.

Nearly everything in your baby’s nursery can be found in a natural form, including the bedding, her clothing, and the décor. Natural baby items are becoming more and more prevalent in the marketplace and many companies are offering products which fall into the natural or organic category. The decision to go natural can be rewarding for both you and your baby.

The environment in your baby’s nursery is also important. Your baby is surrounded by paint and carpet and of course air. Make sure the paint is a lead-free paint, and if you are applying a new paint to coordinate with the nursery patterns, you can go with an eco-friend brand of paint, such as Ecos Organic Paints or FreshAire Choice. These paints have less paint odor to the and are free of the harsh chemicals that remain in your home and in the air. This will help your baby avoid inhaling any fumes and breathe more easily. Additionally, an ionizer can also help keep the air fresh and clean as well.

When you are ready to select baby furniture, look for woods that are organic in nature and come from sustainable material. Part of being a natural parent is being aware of where materials are derived as well as choosing healthy products. If manufactured outside the country, try to make sure the furniture is a fair-trade item where the workers are treated and paid fairly for their efforts. In this way you are looking out for your baby’s future as well as people’s lives today.

Of course the bedding you choose for the crib can be made from organic items. Organic cotton is becoming readily available for purchase, and organic bamboo is also starting to make its presence in the bedding world. In addition to being a sustainable source, bamboo is extremely soft as well as a natural repellant for dust mites and bacteria. Organic fibers like cotton and bamboo can be found in a variety of colors and designs to complement any nursery theme.

Your baby will need some care products. You can have natural canvas shelves with natural baby products on them from manufacturers such as Aveeno, Burt’s Bees Baby Bee, and California Baby which are safer for baby’s skin and less likely to cause irritation.

If you are choosing to use natural and organic products, it is a good idea to let your family and friends know of your decision. This way if they are purchasing gifts for you and your baby, they can find items which will meet your philosophy. And with the combined efforts of you and your family and friends, you will have a beautiful nursery natural in every way, from the products you use for your baby to the furniture in which she sleeps.

But if anyone is more creative than me and has more ideas I would love to hear them! And it would be super cool if you could find pictures, maybe you know of a website I don’t OR have a outdoor themed room yourself. THANKS!!!!! :)

Does Anyone Have Some Inexpensive Nursery Decoration Ideas For This Bedding?

October 4th, 2009 by jennie

I’ve registered at Target and really like the modern feel of this bedding:http://www.target.com/Dwell-Studio-Targe…
I am definitely not a girly-girl and love it because it has girly colors without being in your face with flowers and bows and butterflies etc. I have also registered for these letters, to spell Lily either above her crib or changing table:http://www.target.com/Hanging-Wooden-Let…
I live in an apartment where we are not allowed to paint. Do you have any inexpensive suggestions for wall art I can make? or something else to decorate the bare white walls? The crib and dresser are white.
