Are There Any Good Strollers For Newborns And Up Besides The Huge “travel Systems” That Need A He-man To Push?

September 27th, 2009 by jennie

You know, those huge stroller/carseat/grocery cart combos that look like they weigh as much as I do? I definitely DO NOT want one of those. Are there any other options available for a newborn? While I’m home on leave (after I feel up to it of course) I would like to be able to take her for a walk in my neighborhood, but I don’t want something super clunky.
Anybody got any good advice?

We bought a very cute Sesame Street stroller ($50) from Kmart and it works just fine! The back doesn’t fold all the way down flat, but it does tip back. Or you can put it straight up for when the baby gets bigger. It has a pocket beneath and a little try and cup holder too.
We did roll up blankets and put them beside our son when he was an infant though so he wouldn’t slide all over. But it worked just fine.

rebel get one with lots of hidden pockets so you can save a bundle at the supermarket.

Lol. You know, I once wondered the same thing. We tested them out in stores, but once we picked one, I still wasn’t satisfied. I think all of them are bulky until you can move your baby to a smaller stroller (like an umbrella stroller). I do recommend going to some place like Babies R Us, though, so you can see a wide selection, play around with them, and also push the around the store. Most of the strollers there have a great description, too, so you can see the weight of the system.
edit- I might as well add that we ended up with the graco travel system (winnie the pooh) from Target and it collapsed pretty well, but was still bulky and each time we collapsed it, the front bar/tray would immediately hit the ground so, after only a few uses it was scratched up and looked like it was really old. I am guessing there are better ones that don’t do this. I was annoyed that our new stroller looked awful so quickly, but it did last a while, anyways.

I have been looking for something similar as I have a back problem already and the last thing I need is to put my back out once the baby is born!
I don’t know where you are but I guess you are in the US as you say stroller. I am in the UK and found a travel system by GRACO called MOSAIC ONE. It is much lighter, folds pretty flat and is about half the weight of the other systems on sale.
It is one that I can see us using until the baby is 3ish as it seems to have everything needed.
Good luck in your quest. I would recommend going round and testing them all out in the shop to see how easy it is to raise up steps and round tight corners as well as folding with one hand.

I have the Graco Metro Lite travel system. Stroller/car seat. It is the lightest (17.5 lbs I think for the stroller, 7.5 for the carrier/carseat) one I could find. Easy to operate. Not insanely heavy. We’ve been really impressed with it.

I have the Graco MetroLite travel system and it is much lighter than the other travel systems. I can get the stroller in and out of the back of my car with no trouble and it is very smooth to push.
